The Community for Plastic Reduction and Recycling Project uses a two-pronged approach: community awareness and provision of innovative alternative plastic waste management interventions, such as plastic dustbins, reusable bags and water bottles. The project is designed to spur community actions that bring changes in individual attitudes and purchasing habits leading to reduced littering, increased segregation of plastic waste for recycling and refusal of single-use plastics. The awareness is implemented through various mediums: community engagements during house-to-house, market, religious group meetings, school outreach, and community radio and public announcements. The Community for Plastic Reduction and Recycling Project is funded and supported by Afri-Plastics Challenge.
